cytokines are critical for maintaining the maturation of FDCs. These
include membrane lymphotoxin
1/
2, which signals exclusively through the
lymphotoxin
receptor, and soluble tumour necrosis factor-
(TNF
), which signals through the TNF-receptor 1 (TNF-R1). Both
receptors are expressed on the FDC and/or its precursor cell. In the
absence of either of the above cytokines or their corresponding receptors,
FDCs do not differentiate.
