The particle displays an angular core structure (hexagon) surrounded by a double protein layer (small arrowheads), clear membrane leaflets (arrows) and prominent rod-shaped spikes (large arrowhead) that are characteristic features of foamy virus in cryo-electron microscopy. An FLV particle is marked in white. It has a round core (circle) with three protein layers (arrowheads) exhibiting a radial arrangement (small arrows).
