Schemes for Students
Undergraduate Student Careers Conference Grants offer UG Members a contribution towards registration fees and cost of travel to a Life Science Careers Conference in 2006.
Postgraduate Student Meetings Grants
cover travel and accommodation expenses for attendance at
one SGM meeting each year. Applicants must be Student Members
resident and registered for a PhD in an EU country.
Application form necessary.
Closing date for Manchester meeting 23 March 2007
President's Fund - makes limited
grants to enable young microbiologists to make short research
visits, attend courses, or present their work at scientific
meetings. Applicants must be Society members who are resident
and registered for a PhD in a European Union country or
who are employed in their first postdoctoral position (in
an EU country). Application form necessary. No retrospective
applications accepted.
Closing date for President's Fund Research Visit Grants:13 October 2006 Applications for meetings grants will be considered for conferences in 2006 only.
NB The President's Fund will be replaced by a new scheme in 2007. If you are planning to apply for funds to support attendance at a meeting in 2007 you should not apply to the President's Fund. Application forms for the new scheme will be availble from the website in early November.
Vacation Studentships - small
awards to enable undergraduates to work on microbiological
research projects for 6-8 weeks in the summer vacation before
their final year. Applications must be made on behalf of
named students by SGM members on the appropriate form. Closing date in 2007 to be announced
Elective grants for medical, dental
and veterinary science students - small awards to
enable medical, dental and veterinary science undergraduates
to work on microbiological research projects during their
elective periods. Applications are invited from eligible
students in medical, dental and veterinary schools in the
UK and Republic of Ireland. Closing date: 27 October 2006
Student Society
Sponsored Lectures - small grants to cover the travel
and other expenses of up to two speakers on microbiological
topics each year at student society meetings. Application
form necessary.
Undergraduate Microbiology
Prizes - awarded annually to the undergraduate student
in each qualifying university who performs best in microbiology
in their penultimate year of study for a Bachelor of Science
degree. Nominations must be made by the student's department.
