SARS conspiracy theories (Independent, 27 April 2003)

Many people have come up with theories to explain the SARS outbreak. Here are a few interesting ones.

• Sergei Kolesnikov, a Russian academic, believes that SARS was artificially created for use as a weapon, and that the outbreak was from accidental release of the virus.
• The epidemic is preparing the world for the 'Big One'- a biological agent that will wipe out up to half the Earth's population.
• 'Global industrialists and members of the ultra-rich' have leaked the virus for easy control of population, due to fewer people with increased fear of travel.
• SARS was released to make money for the medical, pharmaceutical, security, and law enforcement sectors.
• The growing economy of China has threatened the US and UK-led plans for domination.
