A series of excellent reviews, but of a limited range of aspects of prion science. Despite the huge budgets that have been put into the subject, what we find is beefed up versions of reviews and official data: the most important factors might be found missing. We are beginning to understand the diseases fairly well, but are now watching the growth of an epidemic of BSE in humans. Surely now is the time to review the prion science of diagnostics, treatment and public health? Well, these are largely missing. As a regularly stabbed scientist myself from the 1990s it rather sticks in my throat to read a very clear explanation that vCJD is due to BSE coming from researchers spending years denying that it would ever happen. I suppose I should be impressed by such a good re-review, but you will need more information than this for a now massive field.
