Potassium Channels, Methods and Protocols
J.D. Lippiat, Ed.
Humana Press (2009)
This is a very informative book, covering a variety of methods available to study potassium channels, ranging from the transcriptional level to structural and function in cell biology and disease states. The protocols are clearly organized and usefully detailed. Each chapter has a brief summary and introduction which sets the scene and explains the methodology. The materials required are listed and followed by detailed step-by-step methods. A helpful notes section explains the reasoning behind specific steps. Illustrative figures and in some cases, photographs of equipment, are appropriate, adding to the clarity of the methods sections. This book would be a valuable reference not only for those already in the potassium channel field but also for studies of other ion channel systems. The level of detail in each chapter allows bench scientists to undertake new, informed, experimental approaches in their research.
