Microbial Food Contamination, 2nd edn
C.L. Wilson, Ed.
CRC Press/Taylor & Francis Group (2008)
At over 600 pages there is a huge amount of information in this book. On reading the title, the impression is given that this is another volume dedicated to the physiology, virulence and ecology of food-borne pathogens. However, this is not the case and the Editor is to be congratulated on assembling some diverse, up-to-date and unexpected subjects into the book. The section on bioterroism is especially interesting and thought-provoking. The other two main sections deal with Detection, monitoring and control, and International regulation and trade. Here too, the traditional areas are covered but also newer aspects such as prions are included as well as emerging diseases. The author list is international and the information relevant, with new technologies being objectively described. At £85, the book is excellent value.
