Medical Mycology Cellular and Molecular Techniques

K. Kavanagh, Ed.

John Wiley & Sons Limited (2007)

This book of 14 chapters describes a wide range of techniques commonly used in the analysis of pathogenic fungi. Candida-weighted, but with three dedicated chapters on Aspergillus fumigatus, one on Cryptococcus neoformans and one on zygomycetes, the text has a broad coverage - but endemic pathogens of the Americas and Asia are not covered. It could be debated whether it was necessary to include as many generic methods that are adequately described in many other general texts - e.g. methods for Southern analysis. Each chapter comes with some easy-to-follow recipes, protocols and a list of key underpinning references, meaning that this book is a good place to start in the search for methodology. In the end there can be no substitute for experience and training, but this text will be very useful to many students and bench scientists wishing to expand their repertoire of practical skills in medical mycology.
