Fundamentals of Biofilm Research
Z. Lewandowski & H. Beyenal
CRC Press / Taylor & Francis Group (2008)
True to its word, this book describes the fundamentals of biofilm research from a bioengineering perspective in an easy-to-read and straightforward manner. This is an interesting, logical and well-written book, which examines many aspects of biofilm and biofilm reactor research, addressing the complexities of biofilm architecture, and its interactions with the surface. The book begins with a solid introduction which summarizes the many practical difficulties associated with this area of research and subsequently moves onto detailed descriptions of applied aspects of bioengineering, and quantification techniques in biofilm research.
Overall this is a comprehensive and well rounded book which is complementary to other literature in this area. It would be a good choice for institutional purchase where specific modules are being taught in this field, and also for personal purchase for researchers that are working on biofilms in general and industrial aspects of biofilms in particular.
